Discover the world. Start with the sister cities is a thematic Wikipedia article creation and improvement & Wikimedia Commons image upload contest dedicated to tourist attractions of Russian cities and regions and their foreign sister cities and partner territories.
Terms of the contest: from November 1, 2018 to March 1, 2019.
Nomination # 1 — articles in Russian about tourist attractions of foreign sister cities and partner territories of Russian cities and districts.
Nomination # 2 — articles in the official languages of countries and regions (except Russian), in which foreign sister cities and partner territories of Russian cities and regions are located, about tourist attractions of their Russian sister cities and partner territories.
Nomination # 3 — free illustrations of tourist attractions of Russian cities and regions and their foreign sister cities and partner territories.
Special nomination «Rostov region» — best articles about tourist attractions of sister cities and partner territories of Rostov Oblast.
Special nomination «New User» — new articles, created by participating information-sharing volunteers that made their first Wikipedia contribution in 2018-2019.
Bonus points (Double points) will be awarded for articles about tourist attractions of small and medium cities and towns (with less than 100 000 inhabitants).
All registered participants are allowed to the contest (registration time does not matter).
Each contestant participates in the contest with only one account.
Articles that meet the following criteria are eligible for the contest:
A new article should be written in the period from November 1, 2018 to March 1, 2019.
A new article should be started by the contest participant, its volume should be at least 2000 bytes and at least 150 words.
An improved article should be supplemented with at least 150 words, information should be based on reliable sources.
When summing up the results of the contest, the number and quality of the works created or improved by the participant are taken into account. Quality means the number and appropriateness of illustrations, completeness of the topics, reliable sources and design.
The jury can disqualify a participant for violating the principle of "fair play", in particular for bot created articles, for not posting articles/illustrations in the list within reasonable time, for mass loading of pre-prepared articles at any stage, as well as for any actions that impede fair contest or deceive other participants.
After creating or improving an article, it should be added to the appropriate table below (the contestants do it themselves).
Only articles that are added to these tables, as well as their authors, take part in the contest.
A created (modified) article should be added to the table within 24 hours from the time of writing, but no later than the end of the contest.
5 winners in each of 3 nominations will be determined:
I place - 25 thousand rubles
II place - 20 thousand rubles
III place - 15 thousand rubles
IV place - 10 thousand rubles
V place - 5 thousand rubles
Special nomination «Rostov region» - 2 special special monetary prizes of 10 000 rubles each are awarded to 2 authors who will get maximum number of points in this special nomination.
Prize of 10 thousand rubles - to the author of the maximum number of articles in Nomination # 1 about tourist attractions of foreign sister cities and partner territories of Rostov Oblast;
Prize of 10 thousand rubles - to the author of the maximum number of articles in Nomination # 2 about tourist attractions of cities and districts of Rostov Oblast.
Special nomination «New User» - special monetary prize of 10 000 rubles will be awarded to the author that first contributed into Wikipedia's Russian-language section in 2018-2019 and will get maximum number of points in the contest.
1.1. The results of the contest are summed up by a jury consisting of experienced and active Wikipedia participants in Russian, who have experience both in writing articles and in evaluating articles created by other authors.
1.2. When summing up the results, the number and quality of the works created by the participant are taken into account.
1.2.1. The winner of the contest is the participant with the highest score. In case of equality of points, the total volume and quality of the articles are estimated.
1.2.2. Participants who have written or improved not less than 10 articles satisfying the requirements can apply for prize places of the contest.
1.2.3. The jury's decision is final and can not be appealed against.
1.3. Within a week after announcement of the results, the winners will be informed by e-mail. To receive the prize, the participant will be required to respond within two weeks after the notification and provide the necessary data.
